RE: Evinrude® E-TEC® 60 HP outboards, from serial number 5363195 to 5379022.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the California Air Resources Board, Environment Canada and all other applicable laws and regulations.

What is the reason for this notice?

BRP is conducting a voluntary recall of certain Evinrude E-TEC 60 HP outboard engines sold in the United States and Canada.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has determined that your engine/equipment may be emitting pollutants in excess of the federal emission standards as defined in Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations. These emission standards were established to protect the public health or welfare from air pollution.

What is the problem?

As defined in Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the California Code of regulations and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, as a manufacturer, we are also required to correct engines that may be emitting pollutants in excess of emission standards.

Please note that if the engine is not serviced to repair the issue, it may fail a state or local emission test.

What should you do?

This recall is effective as of May 28, 2013. You must call an authorized Evinrude/Johnson dealer and make an appointment to have your engine serviced. The service will be performed at no charge to you. The repairs will take approximately 1 hour or less depending on your outboard engine.

The procedure is as follows: upon making an appointment with your Evinrude E-TEC authorized dealer and then taking your Evinrude E-TEC engine to an authorized dealer, an engine report will be gathered and reviewed to determine if your engine contains the affected fuel system calibration. The calibration may need to be replaced. The dealer will order and replace any affected calibration and place the enclosed EPA Recall label on your engine identifying the repair was completed. This will be performed while following the appropriate procedure outlined in the Evinrude E-TEC Service Manual.

To ensure your full protection under the emission warranty on your engine according to federal and state laws, and your right to participate in future recalls, we recommend that you have your engine serviced as soon as possible. We may consider a refusal to service your engine as improper maintenance.
